We’ve had such a dry and warm fall. This is the latest that the rains have started since I moved here over 20 years ago. I’m ready for winter and all that the holiday season brings.
I want to let everyone know that the building is up for sale, but the store is not. We will have to relocate, but I have several different potential plans I’m working on for a new space. The overhead on the building has become too large for the sales, so we’re looking to downsize. We’re sad to be losing our wonderful space, but I’m confident that change is good and that our new space will be better and more suited to our current situation.
We celebrate December with several annual events. We will have fresh homemade cookies and hot mulled cider every Saturday throughout the entire month. I make a different cookie recipe each week, so you can have fun coming in each Saturday to sample a new experience. Then we will also be holding our annual after Christmas sale where all Christmas fabric will be 20% off from December 20th to December 31st. Also from December 20th to 31st, all regular screen print fat quarters will be 10 for $27.50 and batik and flannel fat quarters will be 10 for $30. To receive the special pricing on fat quarters, they need to purchased in groups of 10 (can be mixed between the 3 types - the free fat quarter for the purchase of 10 fat quarters will not apply during the sale). During the entire month of December we will have a limited quantity of fabrics available for $7 a yard. Supplies are limited and selection will change throughout the month.
In January, we will once again be starting our UFO Challenge. We may have to get creative to display the quilts in September if the building is sold by then, but I will find somewhere to display everyone’s hard work. A UFO is any project where cutting has begun (a kit or pile of fabric with a pattern doesn’t quite qualify) up to the point that the binding has been completely tacked down. You need to bring in at least some of the parts of each project you wish to register with us between January 2nd and January 31st. You will have until September 25th to completely finish (that means that it’s quilted and edges are finished). We will hold our annual show September 27th and 28th. For each completed project turned in, you will receive an entry to win by random drawing either a 2 night stay with you and 2 friends in our retreat center or a $50 gift certificate.
The annual Quilt Run 101 is coming up in February. There are only 11 shops participating this year from Port Orford to Astoria. You will have from February 8th through 18th. You must visit at least 5 shops to be eligible for 3rd prize (one of 11 $25 gift certificates), at least 9 shops to be eligible for 2nd (one of 11 $50 gift certificates) and 3rd prizes, and you must visit all 11 shops to eligible for all prizes (grand prize is a sewing machine, 1st prize is one of 11 $100 gift certificates). Each shop will have a free pattern when you come in to get your stamp on your passport. And, just for fun, we will be serving hot cider and homemade cookies every day of the shop hop.
Other Important Items
We will be closed for Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. We will also be open shorter hours on December 31st, from 10 am to 3 pm. We will continue to be closed on Sundays through January 31st, except for the Sundays we meet for our UFO classes. Our regular store hours are Monday through Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm.
